396-Unit Brooklyn Village Phase I Proposed for Second Ward

First & Early Capital has proposed Brooklyn Village Phase I, a 396-unit mixed-use development in Charlotte's Second Ward. The 630,000-square-foot project includes residential units, a 150-room hotel, office space, and retail.

The firm bought the 5.8-acre Phase I site for $24.3 million in June 2026. The plan designates 10 percent of units as affordable housing. The project has the same total square footage as the prior proposal, but with less office space and fewer apartments.

Mecklenburg County commissioners are scheduled to vote November 5, 2026 on a new development agreement. Construction would begin three years after county approval.

The site is part of the larger 17-acre Brooklyn Village redevelopment honoring the historic Black Brooklyn neighborhood. The county is suing former developer BK Partners, a venture of Peebles Corporation and Conformity Corp, over missed deadlines.
