Firehouse 47 ARFF Station Under Construction at CLT

Construction is underway on Firehouse 47, an Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) station at 3813 Yorkmont Rd near Charlotte Douglas International Airport. A building permit valued at $32,842,983 has been issued. The City of Charlotte is developing the two-story, nearly 54,000-square-foot facility, designed by Stewart-Cooper-Newell Architects.

A groundbreaking was held May 27, 2026. A JE Dunn Construction and McFarland Construction joint venture is serving as construction manager at risk. Total cost is reported at $41 million, funded by the city.

The three-level facility (two stories plus mezzanine) includes five apparatus bays housing Engine 47 and ARFF trucks, 22 sleeping rooms, training rooms, a kitchen, fitness area, administrative offices, decontamination areas, and a dayroom. It will be CLT's third airport fire station, joining Stations 41 and 17, and is designed to meet FAA response times: first unit on scene within three minutes, second within four.

The station is scheduled to open in fall 2027, alongside the airport's new Fourth Parallel Runway. Renderings have been released.
