Marie G. Davis Middle School Renovation Underway in Dilworth

Renovation of the Marie G. Davis Middle School campus, also known as the Dilworth Latta Elementary School renovation, is under construction at 405 E Park Avenue in Dilworth. A building permit valued at $32,819,461 was issued in August 2026. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is the developer, with Morris-Berg Architects as architect.

The project covers roughly 70,000 square feet of major renovations across a campus that includes the original 1904 eight-room Dilworth School, a 58,000-square-foot 1967 addition, and a 2006 two-story gymnasium. The campus sits within the Dilworth Local Historic District. D.A. Everett Construction Group is construction manager and general contractor, with Chip Lofton as project manager. Interior demolition was 75 percent complete as of September 2026.

Renovated facilities will include a kitchen and cafeteria, musical arts room, five science classrooms, media center, and gymnasium, plus joint-use athletic facilities with two soccer fields and six tennis courts. Occupancy is anticipated in August 2027.

The work is funded by the 2023 CMS Bond program, a $2.5 billion referendum. Construction cost is approximately $20 million.
