Grady South Medical Campus, a 1,338,000-square-foot hospital development, has been approved at 5500 Campbellton Fairburn Rd in Union City. Grady Health System is developing the $1 billion-plus project on a 40-acre parcel.

The campus includes a 200-bed acute care hospital with critical, intermediate, and acute care units spanning 1.1 million square feet, a 220,000-square-foot medical office building, and an 18,000-square-foot central energy plant. Services include a surgery center, imaging, specialty clinics, pharmacy, rehabilitation, and a Level 3 verified trauma center. Children's Healthcare of Atlanta will operate a full floor of pediatric outpatient services. A freestanding emergency department opened in June 2026 and will be integrated into the hospital.

Funding comes from $300 million in Fulton County bonds, Grady financing, and philanthropy. Grady secured certificate-of-need approval from the Georgia Department of Community Health in August 2026; Union City filed a development of regional impact permit in October 2026. The medical office building opens in early 2028, the hospital in early 2031, with full buildout by 2036.

The project is projected to generate $3.6 million to $6.8 million in annual local taxes and employ 1,880 full-time workers.
