239-Unit Mixed-Use Project Proposed at 1800 Century Blvd in Chamblee

Highwoods Properties has proposed a 239-unit, 18-story mixed-use redevelopment at 1800 Century Blvd. NE in Chamblee. The 298,000-square-foot project would replace a former office tower and includes one affordable housing unit and retail space.

The site held an 18-story glass office tower built in the 1970s, occupied by the Georgia Department of Revenue until 2024. An earlier $91 million plan would have converted the tower into 289 apartments, a fifth at below-market rents. The DeKalb Development Authority approved a 10-year, $6 million property tax break for the conversion, and developers sought a $59 million construction loan and $32 million in equity.

The conversion was abandoned. Atlas Demolition is set to implode the tower Oct. 24. Mercer University reportedly purchased the building, though that remains unconfirmed.

The property sits along Century Boulevard near I-285 and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, a short walk from the Chamblee MARTA station on the Gold Line.
