TGH's 565K SF Taneja Tower Rises on Davis Islands, Opening 2028
Tampa General Hospital's 13-story, 565,000-square-foot Taneja Surgical, Neuroscience & Transplant Tower topped out in April on Davis Islands, with opening set for 2028.

The Taneja Surgical, Neuroscience & Transplant Tower is under construction at 1 Tampa General Circle on Tampa General Hospital's Davis Islands campus. The 13-story tower (plaza level plus 12 floors) totals approximately 565,000 square feet, the largest single building in TGH's history. TGH is the developer, with Gresham Smith on the design team.
The tower includes 144 patient beds and 32 operating suites with expanded ICU capacity, plus two shelled floors held for 72 future patient rooms. Facilities include an intraoperative MRI suite, robotics-ready operating environments, a Sterile Processing Department serving the campus, and a Central Energy Plant. The project also includes education and training space for the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, a café, and two rooftop helipads on the Bayshore Pavilion. A two-story pedestrian bridge connects the tower to the existing hospital.
The project broke ground April 15, 2024, topped out in April 2026, and is expected to open in 2028. Estimated cost is $550 million, up from $520 million reported at groundbreaking. Gilbane Building Company is general contractor; Northstar Management is program manager and owner's representative. The design team also includes Alphonso Architects, Walter P Moore Structural Engineers, and Stantec Civil Engineers.
The tower is named for the Taneja family following a gift from the Taneja Family Foundation.
