Century Tower Conversion Scrapped; Implosion Set for Oct. 24
Plans to convert Chamblee's 18-story Century Tower into 289 apartments are dead. The tower at 1800 Century Blvd will be imploded October 24, 2026.

Highwoods Properties and Brand Properties have cancelled their $91 million conversion of Century Tower, the 18-story glass office building at 1800 Century Blvd in Chamblee, into 289 apartments. The 298,000-square-foot tower is instead scheduled for implosion October 24, 2026 at 7:45 a.m.
Built in the mid-1970s and once one of the area's tallest structures, the tower housed the Georgia Department of Revenue until the agency vacated in 2024. The conversion would have delivered one-bedroom units through three-bedroom townhomes.
The plan had advanced before collapsing. Decide DeKalb approved a 10-year, $6 million property tax break in December 2024, and the developers sought a $59 million construction loan plus $32 million in equity. A fifth of the units were to be reserved at below-market rents.
Atlas Demolition will conduct the implosion. A 750-foot restricted zone and road closures begin at 6:45 a.m. The site will become a detention pond.
