Atlanta Leads U.S. in Data Center Construction, CBRE Reports

Metro Atlanta ended June 2026 with 2,882 MW of data center capacity under construction, the most in the U.S., per CBRE.

Metro Atlanta ended June 2026 with the most data center space under construction in the U.S., according to CBRE, the first time Northern Virginia has been surpassed as the top construction market.

Under-construction capacity reached 2,882 MW, up 52.3% year-over-year, per CBRE's August 2026 report. The milestone follows a leasing surge: metro Atlanta passed Northern Virginia as the top U.S. leasing market in 2024 with 705.8 MW of net absorption, nearly 39 times its 2023 total.

Activity spans the state. Core Scientific is expanding a 175-acre crypto and AI site in Dalton, and T5 Data Centers announced a new building in Lithia Springs.

Officials are responding. The Georgia Public Service Commission approved a capacity plan for Georgia Power, paired with a rate freeze through 2028.
