BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir Under Construction in Matthews

The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is under construction at 2021 Independence Commerce Drive in Matthews. The 72,000-square-foot, single-story temple sits on a 17-acre site. BAPS Charlotte, LLC is the developer; Cluck Design Collaborative is the architect. A building permit valued at $20.83 million has been issued.

The campus includes a 1,000-seat assembly hall, dining hall, gymnasium, and 16 classrooms for youth education, plus spaces for daily darshan, arti, and meditation. Traditional shikars and ghumtis are being crafted in India. The gated, accessible campus provides 415 parking spaces.

A bhoomi-pujan ceremony was held June 9, 2024, and a foundation stone laying took place May 31, 2026. Construction began in July 2025, with completion targeted for Q4 2027. The site was approved under rezoning 2019-702. The mandir replaces the existing 27,000-square-foot BAPS temple at 4100 Margaret Wallace Road.
