The Stitch Phase 1 Construction Set for 2027 Over Downtown Connector
The Stitch will begin Phase 1 construction over I-75/85 in Downtown Atlanta in 2027, starting with street improvements along Ralph McGill Boulevard and Peachtree and Courtland streets.

The Stitch, a highway-capping park over the Downtown Connector, is advancing at Ralph McGill Blvd, Peachtree Street, and Courtland Street over I-75/85 in Downtown Atlanta. Central Atlanta Progress and Atlanta Downtown Stitch Inc. lead the project, with design by Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects. Phase 1 construction is set to begin in 2027.

Phase 1 covers roughly 5 acres between Peachtree and Courtland streets at an estimated $200 million. Work in 2027 focuses on street improvements along Ralph McGill Blvd, Peachtree Street, and Courtland Street, meant to set the stage for later highway-capping work once funding allows. A $157.6 million federal grant awarded in 2024 was largely rescinded in 2025, with $151.4 million pulled back through the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. A secured $50 million will advance design and help create The Stitch Special Assessment District, approved by Atlanta City Council in spring 2025.

The full vision calls for 17 acres of park space atop a three-quarter-mile platform between Ted Turner Drive and Piedmont Avenue. New renderings show a Gateway Pavilion and spaces for social gatherings such as concerts near a large greenspace. The project is projected to generate $9 billion in economic value and 4,500 jobs.
The effort is led by Atlanta Downtown Stitch Inc. with the City of Atlanta and downtown partners. Jack Cebe is president and CEO of Atlanta Downtown Stitch Inc. The design team includes Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects, WSP, and Hargreaves Jones.
