Atlanta Extends Self-Storage Moratorium Through March 2027
The Atlanta City Council approved a 60-day extension of the self-storage development moratorium, pushing its expiration into March 2027.

The Atlanta City Council approved a 60-day extension of the self-storage development moratorium on November 2, 2026, pushing its January 11, 2027 expiration into March 2027. Ordinance 26-O-1595 applies only to Office-Institutional zoning districts.
Mayor Andre Dickens launched the moratorium with a June 24, 2026 executive order halting new self-storage development citywide. Council followed July 6 with a unanimous 180-day moratorium (26-O-1396). The Zoning Committee voted 6-0 on October 26 to recommend the extension.

The extension covers new building, land-disturbance, special-use and special administrative permit applications, plus rezoning requests for storage construction. Companion ordinance 26-O-1596 would add secured-storage and mixed-use storage facilities to Office-Institutional special-permit requirements. Council separately adopted 26-O-1397 on October 5, requiring Special Use Permits for self-storage and ending by-right approval.
A prohibition remains on storage sites within 500 feet of the Beltline corridor, except existing facilities redeveloping at current FAR. Operating facilities are unaffected.
