Construction began in October on the Klyde Warren Park Phase 2.0 Westward Expansion in downtown Dallas. The 1.7-acre addition grows the park from 5.4 to 7.1 acres, extending the park west toward Field Street and covering the final recessed portion of the Woodall Rodgers Freeway. The Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation is developing the project, with design and engineering by Jacobs in collaboration with HKS and Gensler.

The centerpiece is a two-level glass-and-steel event pavilion suspended above the freeway between St. Paul and Akard Streets, with roughly 24,000 square feet of climate-controlled event and reception space and an 8,000-square-foot rooftop terrace overlooking the Dallas skyline.

Outdoor features include The Jacobs Lawn, a 37,000-square-foot multi-use green space that converts to an ice-skating rink in winter, plus The Overlook gathering space and expanded Children's Park and dog park.

The roughly $200 million project is funded through public and private partners, including the City of Dallas, the North Central Texas Council of Governments, the Regional Transportation Council, Dallas County and philanthropic donors. The Dallas City Council is weighing an increase in regional grant funding for the project from $30 million to $44.6 million. The Texas Transportation Commission awarded the construction contract to Archer Western, which built the park's original deck. Construction is expected to take approximately 24 months.

Since opening, the park has generated an estimated $5.9 billion in surrounding property value and $957 million in incremental tax revenue.
