Concourse D Widening Cost Climbs to $1.5B, Completion Set for 2029
Atlanta's Concourse D widening at Hartsfield-Jackson, a 225,000-square-foot Corgan-designed project, is now estimated at about $1.5 billion, up from $1.4 billion, with completion targeted for June 2029.

The Concourse D Widening project at Hartsfield-Jackson is under construction as part of the airport's $20 billion ATLNext capital program, and its estimated cost has climbed to about $1.5 billion from an earlier $1.4 billion estimate. The City of Atlanta is developing the 225,000-square-foot project, with architecture by Corgan and Goode Van Slyke Architecture and structural engineering by Thornton Tomasetti. Completion is targeted for June 2029.
The project widens the concourse from 60 feet to nearly 100 feet, extends it roughly 288 feet, and raises the ceiling 18 feet. Boarding-level square footage increases 75 percent, and hold room seating grows from 5,400 to 6,400. Features include expanded concessions, larger restrooms, a glass curtain wall, and 14-foot self-tinting smart windows.

Construction of the first prefabricated modules began in December 2023. Crews are installing 19 prefabricated steel modules moved overnight across the airfield on self-propelled modular transporters. Phase 1 wrapped in September 2024, reopening six gates. Phase 2 began in January 2025, and its first new gates opened that September. The CM-at-risk is a joint venture of Holder Construction Group, C.D. Moody Construction, Bryson Constructors, and Sovereign Construction & Development.
In November 2026, Atlanta City Council approved more than $55 million in additional airport funding covering Concourse A and B work and other projects. The Concourse D widening remains on track for summer 2029.
