Dallas Voters Reject $443M Public Safety Bond
Dallas voters rejected Proposition A, a $443 million public safety bond, on Nov. 3, 2026, with 56.05% voting against the measure.

Dallas voters rejected Proposition A, a $443 million general obligation bond for public safety facilities, on Nov. 3, 2026. The measure failed 56.05% to 43.95%, the first Dallas city bond rejection in nearly five decades. The last rejection came in 1978, ending a 48-year run of approved city bond measures.
The bond would have funded five projects: an $82 million Law Enforcement Training Center, a $149 million Public Safety Training Complex, a $40 million Emergency Operations Center and 911 facility, $150 million for a DPD property room, evidence storage and crime lab, and $22 million to replace Fire Station No. 4. Total repayment was estimated at $629,618,180.

The Law Enforcement Training Center at UNT Dallas is a separate $227 million project on 20 acres totaling 257,923 square feet. It broke ground Sept. 3, 2026 and opens in 2028. The bond would have closed its $82 million funding gap. HKS Architects designed the project with KAI Enterprises; Swinerton Builders is construction manager at-risk. It targets LEED Gold and net-zero readiness.
Opponents objected to bundling the 911 call center relocation with police facility funding, tying it to the future of the I.M. Pei-designed Dallas City Hall. City leaders and the "Bust the Bond" campaign are pushing a revised bond for the May 2027 ballot.
