Samsung Austin Semiconductor will break ground in November on Fab 2, a 2.7 million-square-foot fab at 1530 FM 973 in Taylor, with mass production targeted for 2030.

At roughly 1.5 times the size of Fab 1, the facility will produce 2nm-and-below chips for AI and high-performance computing applications, with Tesla as a key customer.

Fab 2 is part of Samsung's $37 billion-plus Central Texas investment, backed by up to $4.745 billion in CHIPS Act funding. Taylor City Council has extended HDR Engineering's contract for Fab 2 permit review and inspections. Once both fabs are operational, the campus will support roughly 3,500 direct jobs.

Completion is targeted for 2030.
