Katz's Deli Under Construction at 620 W. Sixth St

Katz's Deli is under construction at 620 W. Sixth St, returning the brand to the corridor where it operated for 32 years. Barry and Lisa Katz are developing the project, with architecture by Michael Hsu Office of Architecture.

Construction began August 11, one day after the City of Austin issued building permit 2026-057238 BP. The permit covers a change of use from cocktail bar to full-service restaurant across 22,620 sq ft. TDLR registered the project April 3 at an estimated cost of $2.5 million, with a scope covering a 5,400 sq ft first-floor remodel and full commercial kitchen. Robert Ronson is the registered accessibility specialist; owner of record is KFLP #4 LLC.

The space is home to POP, a champagne lounge and cocktail bar. The Katzes bought the building at a 2024 bankruptcy auction out of Nate Paul's World Class Property portfolio. Plans call for a full commercial kitchen and 24-hour service, per the motto "Katz's Never Kloses."

Katz's opened at 618 W. Sixth St in 1979 and closed in January 2011. The Austin location will be the brand's sixth; Michael Hsu has designed all of them. Completion is expected March 1, 2027, with a targeted opening in late spring 2027.
