Hotel Cala Under Construction on Tampa Riverwalk

Hotel Cala is under construction at 200 N. Ashley Drive in downtown Tampa, repositioning a hotel opened in 1968 as the Sheraton Tampa Riverwalk and later rebranded Hotel Tampa Riverwalk. Newbond Holdings is developing the seven-story, 281-room property, which includes 16 suites. Rockwell Group is handling design.

The hotel will join Hilton's Curio Collection under Schulte Hospitality Group management. The design draws on Tampa's Italian and Cuban heritage. The Riverwalk-front property will include a lobby lounge billed as "Tampa's Living Room."

Amenities include a resort-style pool deck with cabanas and a 24-hour fitness center overlooking the pool. Event space totals 10,000 square feet indoors and out across seven rooms, accommodating up to 450 guests. Tao Group Hospitality will run two food and beverage venues: LAVO, a coastal Italian restaurant, and BarOnda, a waterfront bar.

A $94.36 million refinancing arranged by Newmark in April 2026, with financing from Bain Capital and Smith Hill Capital, supports the redevelopment. Hotel Cala is scheduled to open in January 2027.
