The 1,513-unit mixed-use Sunset Place Redevelopment at 5701 Sunset Drive in South Miami has been approved. The 33-story, 426-foot project spans roughly 1.47 million square feet and includes a 287-room hotel. Midtown Development is the developer; Heatherwick Studio is the designer.
The project, tied to the Downtown SoMi Community Development District, replaces the existing Sunset Place retail center. Plans call for a central plaza, public open space, and a pedestrian main street with restaurants, bars, and retail.
Amenities include rooftop pools and a 1,300-seat movie theater and performing arts stage, plus 2,418 parking spaces. Completion is expected December 31, 2029.
The site sits along Sunset Drive near US-1, walking distance from the South Miami Metrorail station (Green and Orange lines), with multiple Metrobus routes on South Dixie Highway and Sunset Drive.
