Carnegie Mellon University has proposed a Miami campus at 318 NW 23rd Street in Wynwood. CMU Miami will occupy more than 35 acres on the former Mana Wynwood convention center site. CMU is the developer, with Elkus Manfredi Architects designing. Completion is targeted for December 31, 2028.

The campus is funded by Ken Griffin's $3 billion gift to CMU, the largest individual gift in higher education history, with $2 billion earmarked for Miami. Griffin bought roughly 30 acres of the Mana Wynwood site from Moishe Mana for approximately $1.1 billion in cash, closing September 29, 2026, and donated the land to CMU. Griffin will join CMU's Board of Trustees, and the School of Computer Science will be renamed the Kenneth C. Griffin School of Computer Science.

The campus is organized around four focus areas: human health and biological discovery, national security and strategic capabilities, energy and climate resilience, and advanced manufacturing and industrial transformation. Facilities include industry research labs, venture studios, and design spaces in an arboretum-inspired setting, plus on-site student housing. Full buildout calls for more than 3,500 undergraduate, master's, and PhD students, nearly 300 faculty, and over 600 staff.

Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with first graduate students enrolling in 2028 and the first undergraduate class in 2032. The site falls under the NRD-1 neighborhood revitalization district plan adopted in 2015. Plans are subject to regulatory approvals.
