North Mecklenburg High Athletic Complex Takes Shape in Huntersville

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is building a 28,563 sq ft athletic complex (1,453 heated) at 11201 Old Statesville Rd in Huntersville, with completion expected by December 31, 2026. ADW Architects is the architect; New Atlantic Contracting, Inc. is construction manager and general contractor.

The complex includes a football stadium, grandstands and bleachers, athletic turf, a press box, a running track, a field house, ticket booths, restrooms, and softball and baseball fields. The stadium cost approximately $24 million from the 2023 CMS Facilities Bond. A ribbon-cutting was held October 2, 2026, and the stadium hosted its first game the following week.

The athletic buildings are part of the North Mecklenburg High School replacement, the most expensive project in the 2023 bond at approximately $228.5 million. New Atlantic won the phase two package at $126,894,465. Permits issued include November 4, 2025 ($112M), January 21, 2026 ($134M institutional, $18M commercial), and September 3, 2026 ($5.4M commercial). Construction began November 4, 2025 and was 19% complete as of August 2026. Ryan Thornburg is project manager.

Athletic facilities open for the 2026-27 school year. The academic building targets 2027-28, with full campus completion in 2028-29. Additional softball and baseball fields are planned once the existing on-site building is demolished. Owner of record is the Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education.
