NCDOT's I-77 South Express Lanes project, running from Uptown Charlotte to the South Carolina state line, has been approved. The scope covers I-77 from the I-277/Brookshire Freeway area south to the state border.

A $300 million Community Benefits Agreement tied to the project was also approved. It funds a park cap over the highway, pedestrian and bicycle crossings, a southwest Charlotte recreation center, food cooperatives, green space, bike lanes, public art, and a community engagement center.

Completion is targeted for December 31, 2031. The corridor links Uptown with southwest Charlotte and points south toward Rock Hill, extending the managed-lane model already operating on I-77 north of Uptown.
