SickKids Project Horizon Under Construction at 555 University Ave

The Hospital for Sick Children's Project Horizon is under construction at 555 University Avenue in downtown Toronto. The three-phase, 3,000,000 sq ft campus redevelopment is targeted for completion in 2035. SickKids is the project owner; Stantec and KPMB Architects designed the master plan in joint venture.

Phase 1, the 22-storey Patient Support Centre, opened in September 2023 and houses more than 3,000 staff. PCL Constructors Canada Inc. served as construction manager. Phase 3 will deliver the Peter Gilgan Family Critical Care Tower and the Ambulatory Care Tower in 2035.

Planned facilities include an expanded emergency department, a Level IV NICU, simulation training facilities, an educational hub, event venues, and family waiting rooms. The design incorporates biophilic elements, and the project is LEED certified.

The Province of Ontario is providing $2.4 billion in funding. The Peter Gilgan Foundation donated $100 million toward the patient care tower, and the SickKids VS Limits campaign raised $1.7 billion, surpassing its $1.5 billion goal.
