647,250-SF Data Center Campus Proposed in Big Beaver Borough
Switch, Ltd. has proposed a three-building, 647,250-square-foot data center campus at 201 Penndale Road in Big Beaver Borough on the former Pitt Race site.

Switch, Ltd. has proposed a three-building, 647,250-square-foot data center campus at 201 Penndale Road in Big Beaver Borough, Beaver County. The project, called Big Beaver Data Center/Switch Pit 01-03, would consist of three identical buildings.
The campus would rise on the former 382-acre Pittsburgh International Race Complex, which closed in November 2025. The property sold for $50 million in March 2026 to Wampum I LLC, a Provident affiliate now operating as a Switch subsidiary. The project carries a reported $1.4 billion investment, with claims of 1,500 to 2,000 construction jobs and 80 to 100 permanent jobs.
Each building would span 215,750 square feet, with up to 270MW of combined backup-generator capacity campuswide. The plan uses Switch's EVO design with closed-loop cooling that consumes zero water for server and GPU cooling. A new FirstEnergy switching station would connect to existing 345kV transmission lines. Phase one is targeted for January 2028, with all three buildings by January 2030.
The project has drawn local opposition. A June 2, 2026 town hall drew resident criticism over transparency. Big Beaver Borough Council has until December 18, 2026 to decide.
