TDOT has approved the I-24 Southeast Choice Lanes project, moving it from proposed status, with completion now expected by the end of 2035 — a slip from the previously reported 2032 timeline. The project spans I-24 from I-40 in downtown Nashville to I-840 near Murfreesboro, crossing Davidson and Rutherford Counties. AECOM is serving as architect.
The Choice Lanes program adds priced managed lanes along the I-24 southeast corridor, one of the region's most heavily traveled commuter routes, running through Antioch, La Vergne, and Smyrna to the I-840 interchange.
The project falls under TDOT's broader Choice Lanes initiative, which uses public-private partnerships to deliver express lanes on congested Tennessee interstates. With approval in place, the project enters design and delivery ahead of construction, with completion targeted for December 31, 2035.
The corridor parallels Murfreesboro Pike (US 41/70S) and connects with I-440 and Briley Parkway. WeGo Public Transit bus routes along Murfreesboro Pike serve communities adjacent to the interstate.
