The Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center New Bed Tower is under construction at 1000 Blythe Blvd in Dilworth. The 12-story, 1,160,000 SF tower is the largest CMC campus expansion in recent years. Atrium Health is developing; NBBJ is designing. Completion is expected by end of 2027.

The tower will house 448 adaptable patient rooms, 38 operating rooms, and 16 procedure rooms. A pod-style emergency department adds 62 exam rooms, and a rooftop helipad will serve emergency transport.

Inpatient nursing units use an open core layout, with teammate well-being spaces on every floor. Pedestrian bridges will connect the tower to the existing campus.

The project includes community green space along a renovated adjacent greenway. The site sits near the Blythe Boulevard and Morehead Street intersection, with access to I-277 and walking distance to the LYNX Blue Line's East/West Boulevard station. CATS bus routes serve the corridor along Morehead Street and Kings Drive.
