Downtown SoMi, a 1,513-unit mixed-use redevelopment of the Shops at Sunset Place, has been approved at 5701 Sunset Dr in South Miami. The 33-story, 426-foot project totals roughly 1.47 million square feet. Midtown Development is the developer, with Heatherwick Studio as architect.
The project replaces the existing mall with residential units, a 287-room hotel, and 2,418 parking spaces. Completion is set for December 31, 2029.
Amenities include a 1,300-seat movie and performing arts theater, a central plaza, a pedestrian main street, terraces and gardens, and restaurant and retail space.
The site sits along Sunset Drive near the South Miami Metrorail station and US-1. With approval secured, the project moves toward construction.
