Congress Avenue Revamp Begins in Austin
Phase 1 of Congress Avenue's redesign is underway, enhancing walkability and traffic flow.
Congress Avenue Urban Design Initiative Phase 1 is underway from Cesar Chavez to 7th Street in Downtown Austin. Led by the City of Austin, this mixed-use project aims to enhance the urban landscape.
Features include expanded sidewalks, pedestrian zones, tree planting, upgraded bikeway barriers, and dedicated turn lanes. Completion is set for August 31, 2027.
The revitalization will activate storefronts with programmable zones. Parking will decrease by 37 spaces, prioritizing pedestrians and cyclists.
